Hi, I'm Sue
Hi, I’m Sue - cat lover, picture book maker, and the heart behind The BiG Meow Cat Café.
I live in Melbourne with my husband and two cats. Sylvester, a cheeky tuxedo cat who is always getting into trouble, and Misty Moo, a gentle 16-year-old who likes to sleep all day in the sun.
A love of picture books
My love of picture books began in my early twenties, in a primary school classroom.
Some years later, in Hong Kong, I used picture books to teach English to children and adults. The way a good picture book can communicate beyond words has stayed with me ever since.
Back in Melbourne, I built a career as a writer, editor, and designer of educational and training materials. But the love of picture books never left me. I wanted to write one of my own.
Down a small green lane
The café idea was inspired by Melbourne’s first cat café, which was originally tucked away down a small green lane. And, of course, the antics of my very mischievous tuxedo cat, Sylvester.
The idea became a story, and the story slowly became a book. A whimsical world where cats bake cookies, make friends, and help humans feel right at home.
