Meet Sue
Hi, I’m Sue - cat lover, picture book maker, and the heart behind The BiG Meow Cat Café.
I live in Melbourne with my husband, son, and two cats. Sylvester, a cheeky tuxedo who seldom does as he's told, and Misty Moo, a gentle 16-year-old who likes to sleep all day in the sun.
My love of picture books began in my early twenties, in a primary school classroom.
I left teaching at 23 to travel, and it was during my years living in Hong Kong that picture books found a new purpose for me - as a way of teaching English to children whose first language wasn't my own. Something about the way a great picture book communicates beyond words has stayed with me ever since.
Back in Melbourne, I built a career as a writer, editor, and designer of educational and training materials. But two dreams never left me: to write a picture book of my own, and to open a cat café.
Eventually I realised I didn't have to choose. The BiG Meow Cat Café is both - a cat café that lives inside the pages of a picture book, independently published and made with a lot of love (and considerable input from Sylvester).
